1] Keep
It to Yourself.
Your personal information is PRIVATE! Don’t give it out to other
people on websites or in emails or texts.
Personal
Information Includes:
• Your surname (last name)
• Your address
• Your phone number
• Parents’ names
• School name
• School address
• Your photo / image
If you give out
personal information by mistake, tell your Mum or Dad as soon as possible.
2] Keep
Away from Strangers.
Avoid strangers on the internet, just like you would avoid strangers
in the real world. Remember, on the internet, people can easily pretend
to be something they are not.
Never meet up in
person with someone you’ve “met” online without taking
along your mum or dad.
“Stranger”
also includes strange files. Don’t download files or pictures,
or open emails if you don’t know the sender. Get your parents
to tell your internet service provider if you receive unwanted emails
or pictures.
3] Keep
Your Parents Aware.
Talk to your parents about what you’re doing online.
Which websites are your favourites? Why? How are you keeping in touch
with your friends online? What else do you like to do on the world wide
web?
Ask for permission
if you want to download an image or a file, or if you want to register
for a website competition.
Tell your mum or
dad about anything which seems unusual or which makes you feel uncomfortable.
